Five wins highlight 2021 season

2021-11-15

Cadillac closed the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season by winning the DPi Manufacturer Championship following the season finale Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on Saturday.

With five wins on the season, three of those by the Whelen Engineering Cadillac team, the brand won its third IMSA WeatherTech DPi Manufacturer Championship. The Whelen Engineering Cadillac team posted wins at Watkins Glen, Road America and Long Beach. Contributing to the win total was the Mustang Sampling Cadillac team recording a victory at Sebring in March and the V-Performance Academy Cadillac team bringing home the checkered flag at the company’s hometown race in Detroit in June.

“It was a very exciting championship throughout the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech season,” said Rory Harvey, Cadillac global vice president. “IMSA did a great job managing the series calendar and the performance of the cars for some of the most exciting racing we’ve seen in the DPi era. Our Cadillac teams along with our sportscar engineering group, ECR Engines, and Dallara did the job on the track posting five wins and four points paying pole positions to deliver our third IMSA WeatherTech Manufacturer Championship in five years. The Cadillac DPi-V.R was the class of the field recording no mechanical DNFs on the season. Congratulations to our teams, drivers, suppliers, and our internal racing group for a great 2021 season.”

Whelen Engineering Cadillac with drivers Pipo Derani and Felipe Nasr closed the season as the IMSA WeatherTech DPi Driver’s Champions. Their second-place finish on Saturday also secured Action Express Racing the Team Championship.

Cadillac has used nearly twenty years of racing to develop the foundations of performance driving, most noticeably under its V-Series portfolio. Its recent expansion includes the CT4-V and CT5-V sport sedans, as well as the track-capable CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing.  From the most powerful Cadillac engine ever, to the fully functional aerodynamic bodywork and carbon fiber brakes, the CT5-V and CT4-V Blackwing seamlessly incorporate learnings from the track to the road with zero compromises.

The 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season will kick-off with the traditional Roar Before the 24 test at Daytona International Speedway, Jan. 21-23.
