A new standard of automotive luxury – the Cadillac CELESTIQ

The most technologically advanced Cadillac ever is designed to be the world’s first all-electric ultra-luxury sedan utilizing innovative technology in the service of personalized, handcrafted artistry.

2022-10-27

For more than 120 years, Cadillac has been the ultimate expression of American automotive luxury. In 1908, Cadillac adopted the slogan “Standard of the World,” a bold commitment to world-class engineering, styling, and technology.

Today, the Cadillac CELESTIQ is ready to set a new standard as an ultra-luxury, hand-built sedan that redefines what it means to be a Cadillac. In the all-new CELESTIQ, bold styling and cutting-edge technology combine to create a new paradigm of automotive opulence.

“Leveraging more than a century of automotive expertise and innovation, CELESTIQ is the purest expression of Cadillac design and performance,” said John Roth, vice president, Global Cadillac. “Each vehicle will be a one-of-one work of art built around the most advanced technology that we have ever engineered into an automobile.”

Legacy and inspiration

The CELESTIQ story is built on legacy with personalized luxury rooted in Cadillac’s history of building handcrafted, iconic vehicles such as the 1934 V16 Aerodynamic Coupe and the 1957 Eldorado Brougham.

These vehicles, like CELESTIQ, combined world-class design with the most advanced automotive technologies available, creating icons of craftsmanship and innovation.

CELESTIQ also celebrates design icons who influenced the brand in pivotal ways. For example, a key source of inspiration was architect Eero Saarinen, who designed the original Warren Technical Center Campus and the Cadillac Design Center. Saarinen’s neo-futuristic vision and refusal to be restrained by preconceived ideas were key inspirations for the CELESTIQ designers.

Bespoke client experience

Each CELESTIQ is personally commissioned — no two will be the same.

The client’s journey is fully bespoke and a highly personalized experience curated through collaboration with a personal Cadillac concierge and the client’s selected certified dealer. In addition, every client has access to Cadillac Design to help curate their one-of-one masterpiece.

Each concierge has a unique design background ensuring they are equipped to handle each client’s individual vehicle desires. Their experiences span across fashion, entertainment, fine arts, and design. From working with some of the world’s most renowned artists and brands to designing the interiors of luxury homes, their craft and impeccable attention to detail earn them a spot as trusted advisors to our CELESTIQ clients.

The Cadillac concierge team hosts clients and their guests in-person and virtually at the new Cadillac House at Vanderbilt (also located on the General Motors Global Technical Center campus). Cadillac House is named after pioneering designer Suzanne Vanderbilt, who, in her day, was one of only a few women working in automotive design industry-wide.

“Every CELESTIQ is personally commissioned and working on-site with our Cadillac designers provides clients an elevated experience,” said Bryan Nesbitt, executive director, Global Cadillac Design. “It’s a unique opportunity to collaborate with our design team, enabling clients to directly translate their vision of their CELESTIQ into a one-of-one piece of moving sculpture.”

Engineering excellence

CELESTIQ offers sporty performance whenever it’s needed. This dedicated EV propulsion architecture combines:

  • 111-kWh useable energy battery pack and a two-motor, all-wheel-drive propulsion system
  • 655 horsepower
  • 646 lb-ft of torque
  • 3.7 second 0-60-mph acceleration1

The CELESTIQ ride and handling experience elevates the already-exceptional Cadillac reputation for isolated precision. Through this application, clients will experience an exceptionally smooth ride while still feeling connected to the road. Leveraging an integrated suite of advanced automotive technologies, including Adaptive Air Ride suspension, Active Rear Steering, Magnetic Ride Control and Active Roll Control, CELESTIQ delivers exceptional interior comfort and roominess while performing and handling like a much smaller vehicle.

“CELESTIQ offers responsiveness and athleticism typically associated with smaller performance vehicles,” said Tony Roma, CELESTIQ chief engineer. “We have incorporated Cadillac’s expertise developing advanced chassis and suspension systems into an entirely new experience for the client.”

CELESTIQ design: artistry and craftsmanship

The CELESTIQ exterior and interior were designed together and pioneered Cadillac’s new design philosophy where the art of travel created a holistic vision of ultra-luxury and electrified mobility.

The design team members are not just designers, but also artists, with unique backgrounds in fashion, architecture, industrial design and beyond. Each brings their experiences and perspectives from different genres and channels them into the vision of CELESTIQ.

“Everyone poured their passions into CELESTIQ,” said Erin Crossley, design director, CELESTIQ. “The result is an automobile that redefines luxury through the experiences it offers its driver and passengers.”

Exterior design

The silhouette of CELESTIQ is immediately striking. It is a bold, fastback profile, challenging the ultra-luxury space with the spirit of futurism and the avant-garde. To emphasize the vision the CELESTIQ silhouette evokes, the vehicle features innovative technologies including:

  • Automated illuminated charging indicators: The charge port is surrounded by a ring of light that responds when the CELESTIQ is plugged in for charging. Visual cues indicate the state of charge, including the exterior corner lamps and the lit Goddess emblem above the charge port — a visual representation of how electrification is the soul of CELESTIQ and Cadillac.
  • Materials: Carbon fiber is used extensively on the exterior. This material choice enables the designers to create distinctive forms not possible with traditional metal body panels. The visible metallic finish surfaces are authentic metal, including the aluminum grille header, rockers, taillamp and headlamp accents, eTrunk™ trim, and rear cargo area trim.
  • 3D printing: Additive manufacturing’s precision and flexibility made it the perfect solution to create components for the custom commissioned vehicle - the CELESTIQ has more than 130 parts produced with additive manufacturing. The use of this technology produces several important CELESTIQ design elements, such as the steering wheel center, which represents GM’s largest 3D printed production metal part to date.
  • Exterior lighting: Every single point of light in CELESTIQ is LED. These individual LEDs — more than 1,600 per vehicle (depending on the global sales market) — create a richer, deeper and more vibrant lighting experience. The choreography is harmonized with the interior and is accentuated by the first for Cadillac Digital Micromirror Device headlamps with 1.3 million pixels per side.
  • Lighting choreography: The exterior lighting choreography begins when the client approaches or unlocks their vehicle. The vehicle welcomes the client by illuminating the front Cadillac Crest, before light cascades from the middle of the black crystal shield grille to the headlamps, welcoming the driver and others and creating the impression the vehicle is for the journey.
  • Power open and close doors: There are no exterior door handles, for a cleaner, more aerodynamic appearance. Instead, the client can power open and close the doors easily with the press of a button.
  • Wheel choices: Carefully proportioned to fit its frame and proportions, the 23-inch wheels offered on CELESTIQ are available in countless color choices. All are matched with Michelin Pilot Sport EV self-sealing performance tires in which the sidewall is adorned with the Cadillac Precision pattern, inspired by the Cadillac crest mondrian pattern, to inform the client that the tires were designed and developed specifically for CELESTIQ.

Interior design

The CELESTIQ art of travel interior design is evident the moment the client enters in the cabin. The sensory experience is ignited through authentic materials and indulgent details. The client-selected hand-wrapped materials, immersive interior lighting, and embellishments embody Cadillac’s vision for exclusivity and customization.

  • Immersive lighting: The interior lighting is fundamental to CELESTIQ, featuring more than 450 distinct LEDs, delivering an immersive sensory experience. Clients can personalize their color selections for each interior lighting zone or let CELESTIQ curate the lighting combinations to harmonize throughout the cabin.
  • Hand-finished metalwork: Many of the metal elements throughout CELESTIQ require detail and finish work such as fine milling, anodization and a final polishing by hand, reflecting the authenticity and high level of finish detail that goes into each handcrafted vehicle.
  • Hand-wrapped leather: CELESTIQ leather surfaces are made with premium leather wrapped by artisans.
  • Art and color: The client is involved in every decision when it comes to the colors, materials, and finishes, including the opportunity to develop new colors or paint to match in collaboration with the Cadillac design team. This enables a countless number of choices, ensuring each client’s vehicle will be a truly one-off creation.
  • A variety of finishes: CELESTIQ offers an endless range of exterior and interior colors, materials and finishes enabling clients to design a truly unique vehicle.

Technology and unprecedented innovation

CELESTIQ is distinguished by artfully integrated technologies that exhilarate upon first impression and become indispensable elements of every driving experience.

The vehicle includes five high-definition displays including:

  • Pillar-to-pillar, 55-inch-diagonal advanced HD display
  • Front console mounted 11-inch-diagonal touchscreen Front Command Center
  • Rear console mounted 8-inch-diagonal touchscreen Rear Command Center, which allow clients to control many features within the vehicle such as the seating positions, cabin temperature, door opening and closing, tinting the all-glass roof panel and more
  • Two rear passenger 12.6-inch-diagonal advanced displays mounted on the front seatbacks

Additional CELESTIQ technology highlights include:

  • Built-in infotainment system: Experience an infotainment system that’s compatible with any smartphone and feels personalized for every driver. With features like Google Assistant, navigation and popular apps like Spotify, clients can enjoy effortless hands-free assistance, real-time traffic updates and their favorite playlists and podcasts.
  • Fixed smart glass roof: The all-glass roof panel employs Suspended Particle Device technology to allow variable transmission, meaning the client can control the amount of light allowed into the vehicle in four zones — one for each passenger area.
  • Advanced climate system: CELESTIQ is the first vehicle to feature a Gentherm ClimateSense® four-zone microclimate system as standard equipment. It features 33 unique microclimate devices that allow each occupant to tailor their seat heating and cooling, along with advanced airflow technology to create truly individualized comfort. All four-seating positions will feature the same level of individualized comfort, including a neck scarf, heated armrests as well as heated, cooled and ventilated seats. The system can also significantly reduce HVAC energy consumption.
  • Standard Super Cruise2: CELESTIQ advances Cadillac’s expertise in hands-free advanced driver assistance technologies with available Super Cruise.
  • Remote Auto Parking3. When activated, it allows the vehicle to detect a parallel or perpendicular parking space and guide itself into the space — shifting gears, braking and steering, as needed. This is accomplished with the driver’s supervision, whether in the driver’s seat or outside the vehicle. The feature can also “unpark” the vehicle, pulling it out of the parking space without the client needing to be inside.
  • Sound experience: CELESTIQ offers 42-speakers, including four exterior speakers. In the cabin, a standard 38-speaker AKG Studio Reference audio system with the latest available Dolby Atmos® capability fills the interior with lush, ultra-high-resolution sound, optimized to take advantage of the hushed cabin and near-silent electric propulsion.

World-class quality and manufacturing

Every CELESTIQ will be constructed at the Artisan Center in Warren, Michigan4 — another facility on GM’s 69-year-old, 710-acre campus that is globally recognized as the preeminent innovation center for automotive engineering, design, and advanced technology.

Within the Artisan Center’s walls, a hand-selected team of talented and highly trained artisan makers, united in their vision for perfection, hand-build every CELESTIQ. It’s a return to the type of bespoke craftsmanship that forged Cadillac’s legacy as the Standard of the World more than a century ago.
